Citrus and olives compliment each other beautifully. But olives aren't only for delicious dishes... Here, they create the perfect accompaniment to the elegant martini. This cocktail (shaken, not stirred) is an all-time classic. Legend has it that bartenders began adding olives to cocktails towards the end of the 1800s. (The Dirty Martini adds a dash of the olive brine to the cocktail too.) Serving your cocktail with three olives gives a respectful nod to tradition too. Some say that using an even number is considered bad luck, whilst others just see three as the perfect number to enjoy alongside your drink. Olives on a cocktail stick across the edge of your drink adds an unmistakable air of elegance - but you can of course serve a bowlful of olives alongside your drinks. (Perhaps continue the citrus theme with a side of Fragata Lemon-filled olives.) But don’t think that a Martini is only for when you have guests around. Treating yourself to a perfectly made, deliciously tasty cocktail is something we should all do for ourselves from time to time.
